Donaldo Almazan Wins Phil Layton Award

Donaldo Almazan, CHBE Class of 2018, was recently named a winner of the Phil Layton Award for Excellence in the Arts. Donaldo is a founding member of the Rice Art & Engineering Club, serving as the Public Relations office and Project Manager.

This year, the team created and hosted an art exhibition at the Moody “PopUp” event December 2, 2016 called “DoodleBots” – an exhibit where the audience learned about origami and robotics by creating tiny robots (made of paper, markers and a toy motor) which created scribbles as they moved around the room. The group has plans to launch Doodlebot workshops in the Medical Center area for children with illness and disabilities.

Donaldo received a monetary prize for this award that he intends to use to make this plan a reality.
