Research by Dr. Dilip Asthagiri, Arjun Valiya Parambathu, Dr. Deepti Ballal, and Dr. Walter Chapman on water solubility in alkanes was No. 2 on a US Department of Energy list of 2017’s top university stories. The research was published in Journal of Chemical Physics in August 2017 and was noted as a “Featured article” and also honored by a Scilight, which summarizes new and important physics research.
The work could have far-reaching impacts in fields as diverse as biology, environmental systems, and energy and chemical production, fields in which atomistic computer simulations are increasingly being used to understand, and potentially to manipulate, processes at the nanoscale.
Allied research dealing with the description of solvation at the nanoscale appeared in the Journal of Chemical Physics and was highlighted as an “Editor’s pick”.
The research efforts were funded by grants from ADNOC, the Welch Foundation, and computer time at the National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center.
