The Rice Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering department held the 2019 Paul C. Wilber Memorial Lecture on January 31, 2019, with noted speaker Dr. Chaitan Khosla giving a talk on the history and progress of his research in Celiac disease.
Noting that the incidence of this disease in the world population is about one in one hundred, his research has resulted in both fundamental and translational advances with the goal of one day finding a cure for this inheritable disorder that is triggered by gluten, a protein found in many foods.
Dr. Khosla is the Wells H. Rauser and Harold M. Petiprin Professor in the School of Engineering and Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Stanford. A reception and dinner followed the lecture.
