The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering is celebrating several members of its Graduate Student Association (GSA), whose leadership was recognized during the 2026 student organization awards cycle.

Among this year’s awardees, Chase Sellers received the Outstanding Member Award, a distinction that highlights students who go above and beyond in service to their organization. This award recognizes individuals whose contributions often happen behind the scenes but are essential to an organization’s success. Sellers was selected for exemplifying quiet leadership, dedication, and a strong commitment to fostering a supportive and engaged graduate student community within chemical and biomolecular engineering.

In addition, Jason Adams, faculty advisor to the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering GSA, was honored with the Hudspeth Award, also known as the Advisor of the Year Award. The honor recognizes faculty and staff sponsors who demonstrate exceptional dedication to student organizations and student life. Adams’ mentorship and ongoing support have helped strengthen the GSA’s programming and community-building efforts across the department.

The Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering GSA was also recognized at the university level through nominations for the Development Award and Graduate Student Organization of the Year as part of the 2026 Beyond Rice Awards. While the organization did not receive those awards this year, the nominations reflect the GSA’s growing impact and contributions to the broader Rice community.

Together, these recognitions highlight the strength of the department’s graduate student community and the dedication of those who work to enhance it. The department congratulates Sellers, Adams, and all members of the GSA for their continued commitment to leadership, service and community
